How to Verify a Knife Manufacturer in Pakistan Before You Pay

Before paying a knife supplier in Pakistan, check four things from abroad: the tax registration on the FBR portal, the membership of a chamber of commerce, the listing in the government exporter lists, and that the bank account carries the exact name of the business. No single register proves that a business makes knives, so add a live video of the workshop and start with a small order.

Updated 5 November 2026. Written by Pakistan Knives Factory, a knife manufacturer in Sialkot since 1982: we ask 100% payment before production, so we expect buyers to check us the same way.

What each public register shows

  • Federal Board of Revenue (FBR): the verification portal covers the Active Taxpayer List, a taxpayer profile inquiry and the sales tax blacklist, searched by tax number (NTN), national ID or registration number. It shows tax filing status, not what a business makes. For individuals, FBR's own SMS check uses the national ID, so a sole proprietor may be easier to find with that number.
  • Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP): the company name search covers incorporated companies. Sole proprietors register through FBR instead, and many workshops are sole proprietorships, so absence from SECP is not a warning sign by itself.
  • Sialkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI): the members directory can be searched by name or member ID. A member page shows the company, contact person, class, category, address, phone and email. The chamber also publishes a list of blacklisted companies.
  • Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP): exporter lists by customs chapter. Knives are in chapter 82, which is wider than knives and dates from 2022, with the name, tax number and address of each exporter.
  • Pakistan Cutlery & Stainless Utensils Manufacturers & Exporters Association: based in Wazirabad, founded in 1967, about 600 members at the end of 2024. Membership is a good sign, but absence proves nothing: only about 50 of its members have a Sialkot address. We are members of the Sialkot Chamber, not of this association.
  • Pakistan Trade Portal: a TDAP marketplace. A listing there shows that a company has an account: we found no statement that sellers are verified.

Is it really a manufacturer?

Registers show that a business exists, not that it owns a workshop. Many exporters are traders, which is not wrong in itself, but it changes who controls quality and lead time.

  1. Ask for a live video call that walks through the workshop, and ask to see a knife of one of your references being made.
  2. Find the address on a map and check that it matches the registers and the bank details.
  3. Ask a question only a maker can answer quickly: how a handle is fitted, which step takes longest, what the blade steel is.
  4. Check that the prices, references and sizes are published and consistent, rather than changing from one message to another.

Warning signs

  • The bank account is in a person's name or a different company's name.
  • The bank details change by email or chat: confirm any change by calling a number you found independently. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center counted more than US$55 billion of exposed losses from this kind of fraud between 2013 and 2023.
  • The supplier refuses a video call, or shows only photos that also appear on other sites.
  • The phone numbers, addresses or company names differ across listings with no explanation.
  • The price is far below the others for the same material and size.

Limiting your payment risk

The US government's guide to trade finance describes cash in advance as the most secure method for the exporter, which makes it the riskiest for the importer, and letters of credit as among the most secure instruments, though relatively expensive because of bank fees. Cash in advance is common with small workshops, ours included, so these are the practical ways to limit the risk:

  • Start with a small first order. That is why our terms have no minimum order.
  • Pay only an account in the exact name of the business, and check it against the quote.
  • For a large order, consider a letter of credit or a third-party inspection before shipment, and ask for it in the quote.
  • Keep the quote, the invoice and all the messages together.

Checking Pakistan Knives Factory

The same applies to us. Our Sialkot Chamber member ID is A-42738, our tax number is 3706417-7, we appear under NTN 3706417 in the TDAP list for chapter 82, and our account name is PKF-PAKISTAN KNIVES FACTORY at Meezan Bank. The direct links are on our company profile.

Questions buyers ask

How can I check if a Pakistani company is registered?

Search its tax number on the FBR verification portal, and its name on the SECP company search if it is an incorporated company. Sole proprietors are not on SECP. Then look for it in its chamber of commerce directory.

Does a listing on a trade portal prove a supplier is genuine?

No. We found no statement that sellers on the Pakistan Trade Portal are verified. Use a listing as a starting point and check the registers and the bank account name.

Is paying 100% in advance safe?

It is the riskiest method for a buyer. If a supplier requires it, check the registers and the account name first, and start with a small order.
