Hunting, skinning, Bowie or collector piece: where to start
The 81 knives in this section fall into three families, and most buyers need only one or two of them.
- Classic Fixed Blade Knives: 52 hunting, skinning, Bowie and dagger models with wood, horn or bone handles, each supplied with a leather case.
- Damascus fixed blades: ten collector pieces, most with pattern-welded blades and brass fittings.
- Throwing Knives: one-piece stainless knives for target sport.
Within the classic range, let the end use decide. A Pakistan hunting knife for dressing game should have a modest blade and ideally a gut hook, like the Fixed Blade Skinning Knife with Gut Hook & Burl Olive Wood Handle. Camp and outdoor customers prefer a general-purpose blade with a 12 or 13 cm handle that suits a gloved hand. Collectors look for Bowies and daggers with guards and figured wood.
Handles run from 8.5 cm on the smallest skinner to 15.4 cm on the largest Bowie. When a sample arrives, check that the handle is tight on the tang, that guard and bolster sit without gaps and that the knife seats fully in its case. A balanced Pakistan fixed blade knife range for an outdoor shop might hold two skinners, two general-purpose knives and one Bowie.
