Care & maintenance

Protecting the black coating and cord wrap

The matte black finish and wrapped grip need different care from a polished, wood-handled knife:

  • Clean the 25.5 cm blade with a soft cloth and mild soapy water; scouring pads and abrasive polish wear through the coating.
  • Expect the coating to disappear along the edge after sharpening: that bright line is normal and the stainless steel beneath is unaffected.
  • Keep the cord-wrapped handle, made of faux leather and plastic, out of long soaks; towel it dry and let it air fully.
  • Polish the brass collar sparingly, keeping the paste off the coating.

Cared for like this, a Pakistan fixed blade knife with a coated finish keeps its matte look for years.

Quality check

Coating, wrap and point: arrival checks

Coated blades and wrapped handles show their quality quickly if you know where to look:

  • The black coating is even across both faces and the spine, with no bare spots, bubbles or chips.
  • The angular tanto point is crisp, its short front edge meeting the main edge at a clean corner.
  • The cord wrap on the 12.5 cm handle is tight and evenly spaced, with no loose ends.
  • The brass collar sits snugly between blade and handle.
  • The 37 cm knife goes fully into its leather case.

A stainless Pakistan knife with a coated blade passes or fails on these points within a minute.

Did you know?

Tanto points are younger than they look

In Japan, a tantō is a short traditional blade, shorter than a sword. The angular tanto point on modern knives, with its straight edge breaking into a short angled tip, was popularised by American makers in the early 1980s and only loosely resembles most historical tantō, many of which had curved points. The cord-wrapped handle on this knife borrows from another Japanese tradition, the wrapped grip of the sword.

Questions & answers

Outdoor knife or display piece, and other questions

Are Pakistan knives any good?

Pakistan's makers cover everything from simple folders to specialist designs like this coated tanto. Judge this model on the points its design depends on: an even, well-bonded coating, a crisp angular point, a tight cord wrap and a brass collar that sits flush. A Pakistan knife that gets those right is well made, wherever it comes from.

What is the price of this knife in Pakistan?

It is priced per piece at the top of this page, in rupees (PKR) for visitors in Pakistan. Outdoor retailers buying in quantity pay a lower rate per knife; contact us on WhatsApp or by email with the number you need.

Is it an outdoor knife or a display piece?

Both. The 25.5 cm blade and 37 cm overall length make it a large camp knife for clearing brush and cutting rope, and its black finish makes it a striking piece for fans of Japanese-inspired design.
