Pruning, grafting or mushroom knife: which one for which customer
These three lines look alike once folded, but each blade does a different job.
- Pruning knives (serpettes): a hooked blade that pulls through a stem, for vines, roses and orchard work.
- Grafting knives: a straighter blade for the clean, flat cuts of grafting, some with a bark lifter, for nurseries and orchards.
- Mushroom knives: a curved blade with a built-in brush, for foragers and the shops that serve them.
Handles come in teak, acacia, dark wood, horn or bone, with brass or inox bolsters, and Damascus versions exist. Read our guide to pruning, grafting and budding knives.
