The Bowie knife is American by name, yet much of its early spread came from England. In the mid-nineteenth century, Sheffield cutlers turned out wholesale Bowie knives in great numbers for the American market, many of them etched with patriotic slogans. This throwing knife borrows the same clip-point profile, cut from a single 2.5 mm plate of stainless steel.

How to use

Your first throws with the fishtail-grip Bowie

The handle grip is the natural place to start, and the forked fishtail cutout gives your fingers a clear place to settle.

Stand facing the target with your feet comfortably apart and your weight slightly forward.
Hold the fishtail grip loosely, thumb along the flat, and raise the knife beside your head with the clip point upward.
Bring your arm down and forward in one straight line, as if pointing at the target, and let go when your hand reaches eye level.
Follow through until your arm points towards the ground; stopping short is a frequent cause of a wobbling spin.
Repeat the same motion a dozen times before judging the knife: consistency matters more than power.
