How to use

Finding your distance with the flame-tip knife

Every thrower has a distance at which a given knife lands point-first, and finding it is the first job with any of our throwing knives from Pakistan.

Stand about three big steps from the target and throw with the handle grip, using the same smooth motion every time.
Watch how the knife strikes. If the flame-tipped pommel is tilted upwards, the knife has over-rotated: move half a step closer.
If the pommel points down, it has not turned far enough: step back by the same amount.
Once three throws in a row stick, mark that spot; it is your distance for this knife and this grip.
Check it again whenever you switch grip or knife, since a heavier or lighter model may need a slightly different line.

Care & maintenance

Toothbrush, soap and a dry case: flame-tip care

Even a plain one-piece knife benefits from a minute of attention after practice, and the flame tip and oval cutout are where trouble starts:

Brush splinters out of the oval cutout and from the base of the flame tip with an old toothbrush.
Wash off sap with warm soapy water, then dry thoroughly; stainless steel can still stain if left wet.
Feel the flame tip for burrs after a miss and smooth them with fine abrasive paper.
Store the knife in a case or roll with a separate pocket for each knife, so the stainless surfaces do not scratch one another.

Is the flame tip fragile?
