Which one to choose

Damascus or stainless: choosing your Bowie

This is the Damascus member of a Bowie family that otherwise uses stainless blades. Among Pakistan Damascus knives it stands out for size, a full 21.3 cm of hand-forged pattern under a polished brass guard. How it compares:

Choose the Damascus when the pattern and the ridged walnut handle matter as much as the cut.

Showing and maintaining a Damascus Bowie

A pattern-welded blade earns a place where customers can see it and owners can keep it bright. Three useful companions:

How to use

First week with a hand-forged Bowie

Damascus rewards a careful start. Steps for the first days of ownership:

  1. Before first use, wash the blade in warm soapy water, dry it at once and look along the 21.3 cm edge in good light: the layered pattern should run the full length.
  2. Thread the leather case onto your belt and practise drawing and re-sheathing slowly, with the edge always facing away.
  3. Use the belly of the blade for slicing and the clip point for detail, keeping the ridged walnut handle dry for a sure grip.
  4. After each use, wipe the blade clean, dry it and apply a thin film of oil.
  5. Store the knife outside its case, so the leather cannot hold moisture against the steel.
Questions & answers

Collectors ask about pattern, price and care

How much does this Damascus Bowie cost in Pakistan?

Visitors from Pakistan see its unit price in rupees (PKR) at the top of the page. Collectors' shops ordering several hand-forged pieces get a lower rate per knife; tell us the quantity on WhatsApp or by email and we will send a quote. Damascus pieces can be mixed with stainless ones in the same order.

Are Damascus knives from Pakistan any good?

The best are excellent, and Pakistan has a long-standing reputation for hand-forged Damascus. Look for a pattern that runs evenly to the tip, no dark lines or pits where layers failed to weld, and a clean etch. Damascus of this kind usually includes carbon-rich layers that are less rust-resistant than stainless, so keep this one dry and lightly oiled, as with all Pakistan knives in pattern-welded steel.

Will mine match the photo?

The layout of the layers is unique to each forging, so expect the same character rather than the identical pattern. The photo shows a typical example of this Bowie.
