Questions & answers

Teak pruner: quality, price and grafting

How much does this teak pruning knife cost in Pakistan?

US$1.48 per piece (PKR 914 for buyers in Pakistan). From 50 pieces the price drops to US$1.04 per piece. For a larger order, send us the quantity on WhatsApp or by email and we will quote a lower rate.

Can it be used for grafting?

For light grafting touch-ups, yes, as long as the edge is kept keen. Regular budding and grafting go better with a dedicated knife such as the Teak Wood Handle Grafting Folding Knife Keychain, since a grafting blade is shaped for flat, clean cuts.

Best uses

Jobs for a pocket-sized pruner

Teak copes with wet mornings and damp hands better than most woods, so this hooked blade knife is happiest outdoors, on the small jobs where a full-size pruner would be more tool than you need. Its 3.7 cm curved blade folds back into the 5 cm handle the moment the job is done.

Taking soft cuttings
Removing tomato side shoots
Trimming strawberry runners
Cutting twine on the allotment
Harvesting courgettes and cucumbers
Opening feed and compost bags

Gift ideas

Thoughtful gifts for people who grow things

Pruning knives have long been part of Sialkot's output, and this is that traditional Pakistani knife pattern shrunk to keyring size, with warm teak and a stainless bolster. It suits:

A mother or grandmother whose garden is her pride, for Mother's Day.
New homeowners with their first garden, slipped into a housewarming card.
Volunteers at a community garden or school vegetable plot, as a thank-you.
A colleague retiring to spend more time in the greenhouse.

The honey colour of the teak deepens gently with handling, so the present ages along with its owner's garden.

Care & maintenance

After a day outdoors: teak and steel care

Teak is naturally oily, which is why boat builders have relied on it for centuries, but a little attention keeps a small handle at its best.

Wipe sap and soil off the 3.7 cm blade after use, then dry it before folding.
Once a month, rub a drop of teak oil or food-safe oil into the 5 cm handle with a soft cloth.
If the blade starts to feel stiff, put a drop of light oil on the pivot and work it open and closed a few times.
Never leave it lying in a wet glove or a bucket of water; standing moisture is hard on any wood.

Looked after like this, a Pakistan knife with a wood handle keeps its warm colour for many seasons.
