Getting a deep charcoal into the grain
Dark dyes are more forgiving than pale ones but bring their own challenge: the colour must reach deep enough that a knock or scratch does not reveal bright wood underneath. Handles for a set like this are typically dyed after shaping, left to dry and then sealed, sometimes with a second coat to even out the tone along the 12 cm length.
The charcoal is set off by white copper bolsters, whose silvery tone looks almost bright against the dark grey, and by 11.5 cm blades of 420 steel. It rounds out a knife set from Pakistan range that also comes in blue, red and pale oak tones, all made in Sialkot.
