How to use

Arranging pocket knives on dark wooden tiers

  1. Dust the wood with a soft, dry cloth before loading; dark finishes show every speck.
  2. Start with the top tier and the longest pocket knives, then step down to the smallest at the front so no handle hides another.
  3. Turn every folder the same way, pivot to the same side, so each row reads as one clean line.
  4. Put pale bone handles and brass bolsters where the eye lands first, in the centre, because they glow against dark wood.
  5. Wipe the stand with a barely damp cloth when needed, never a wet one.

Light enough at 210 g to move between window and counter, it also makes a handsome keychain stand for a shop till when the front row holds keyring folders.

Best uses

Rooms and shops where solid dark wood looks at home

Dark wood flatters brass, bone and pale timber, and it looks permanent in places where cardboard would feel temporary. It suits Pakistan-made knives with natural handle materials, and the customers who buy them as keepsakes.

  • Gentlemen's outfitters

  • Hotel and resort boutiques

Shoppers ignore the first steps inside a door

Retail researcher Paco Underhill, in his 1999 book Why We Buy, described a 'decompression zone' just inside a shop entrance, where people are still adjusting to the light and space and overlook most of what is on display. A stand of Pakistan knives placed a few steps further in, on the first counter where visitors slow down, gets noticed far more than one by the door.

Questions & answers

Collectors ask about the dark wood stand

How should I display a knife collection?

Treat it like a small museum shelf: fewer pieces, well spaced, each with a reason to be there. Tiered stands help because every knife stays in sight, and natural wood suits collections of wood, bone and brass. A small label giving the maker, handle material and year acquired makes a collection far more interesting to visitors.

Will the dark wood fade?

Like any timber, it can lighten if it stands in strong direct sunlight for long periods. Keep it out of the brightest window, dust it with a dry cloth, and keep water and cleaning sprays off the surface.

Does it suit large fixed blades?

It is built for a row of pocket knives. For fixed blades, the Black Multi-Slot Angled Knife Display Stand in the same range holds folding and fixed-blade knives side by side.
