Best uses

When a light leather suits the knife better

Black is not always the right frame. A honey-tan cowhide sheath complements light woods, brass bolsters and outdoor clothing, and its rear belt-loop slot lets it ride on a belt. As Pakistan knife makers, we offer it for customers who want natural leather rather than black:

  • Teak and light wood folders
  • Belt carry on country walks
  • Hunting and fishing outfits
  • Rustic or heritage gift sets
  • Matching brown leather belts
Care & maintenance

Keeping honey-tan cowhide even in colour

Light leather shows everything, so a tan sheath needs a gentler hand than a black one:

  • Test any balm or oil on the back first; most conditioners darken tan cowhide by a shade or two.
  • Wipe rain spots off promptly and let the whole sheath dry evenly, or a ring mark can remain.
  • Keep it away from new denim and dark bags while it is fresh, as dye can transfer onto pale leather.
  • Expect the honey tone to deepen with sunlight and handling; that patina is normal and attractive.

Cared for this way, the 12 cm pouch will look better after a year of use than on the day it arrives.

Cowhide, colour and a slot for the belt

Cowhide is the backbone of the leather trade: cattle hides are large, thick and evenly fibred, so a pattern can be cut from them with little waste and the finished piece keeps its shape. Pakistan has a sizeable tanning industry built largely on this material, supplying makers of garments, gloves and accessories as well as sheaths.

This 12 cm sheath is cut from honey-tan cowhide, with a snap closure over the knife and a slotted belt loop on the back. It gives Pakistan-made knives with wooden handles a warmer companion than black, and lets a retailer offer a second colour in the same size without much extra stock.

Questions & answers

Honey-tan questions from shop owners

Why does the shade vary slightly from one sheath to the next?

Natural cowhide takes colour a little differently from hide to hide, depending on its thickness and fibre. That small variation is a mark of real leather rather than a fault, and it evens out as the sheath mellows with handling and light.

How is it worn on a belt?

Slide your belt through the slotted loop on the back, then thread it through your trouser loops as usual. Check the slot against the width of the belt you plan to use, as heavy work belts vary.

Is the tan leather available in other sizes?

Yes: our range also has a padded tan cowhide sheath for folders and a longer tapered one for fixed blades. Mixing them lets Pakistan knives of different sizes share the same look on the shelf.
