Care & maintenance

Glovebox life and how a padded sheath copes

This sheath often lives in a glovebox, a locker or a kit bag, places where heat, damp and dust come and go. A little care keeps it ready:

  • Every few months, take the knife out and let both air for an hour; trapped moisture is the main enemy of padded leather.
  • Shake out the grit that collects in the rounded bottom, where it would scratch handle panels.
  • In summer, never leave it on the dashboard, where sun dries and cracks leather.
  • Wipe the split leather with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally.

As Pakistan knife makers, we list this padded 11.5 cm sheath as the match for our rescue folders, which so often end up stored in vehicles.

Pro tip

Store it where either hand can reach

A rescue knife is no use if it is buried in the boot. Keep it in this padded sheath in the driver's door pocket or the centre console, snap facing up, so it can be found by touch and opened with one hand. Check once a season that it is still there; car-cleaning days are when gear quietly disappears.

Did you know?

Seatbelts explain the belt cutter

The three-point seatbelt fitted to almost every car today was designed by Swedish engineer Nils Bohlin and introduced in 1959, and his employer left the patent open for other manufacturers to use. Belts have saved countless lives, but a jammed one sometimes has to be cut, which is why the rescue Pakistan knives this sheath is made for carry a belt cutter.

Questions & answers

Rescue knife owners ask

Which knives is this sheath meant for?

It is the listed sheath for our rescue folding knives with glass breaker and belt cutter, including the skull, anchor, lion crest, eagle and firefighter helmet designs, and the plain black aluminium models. Our wooden gift boxes list it as compatible as well.

Why is the interior so deeply padded?

Rescue folders carry a pointed glass breaker and decorated handles. Thick padding keeps both away from hard leather edges and stops the knife knocking about in a door pocket or bag.

Is the sheath also made in Pakistan?

Yes. Like the knives made in Pakistan it protects, it is produced in Pakistan and sold separately, so retailers can decide how many to stock with each knife order.
