Why classic folders wear a bolster
The bolster, the metal collar at the front of the handle, began as a practical part. On older folding knives with wood, horn or bone handles, it protected the ends of the scales from splitting where the blade pivots and gave the hand a firm stop. Cutlers soon learned to polish it, and it became part of the look of a well-made knife.
This 12 cm teak folder keeps that pattern: a polished inox bolster, a 10.5 cm stainless blade and plain teak without decoration. It is the kind of Pakistan pocket knife that has been carried in jacket pockets for generations, simple enough to suit almost anyone.
