Red for rescue: a colour with a history

Red has marked firefighting equipment for generations, from engines to extinguishers and hose reels. In the 1970s some American fire departments repainted their engines lime-yellow, after research suggested it was easier to see at dusk, yet red never lost its hold on the public imagination. That is why a red grip still reads as rescue equipment at a glance, and why red is such a natural colour for knives for firefighters.

Questions & answers

Questions from safety shops about the red folder

What makes a good knife for a firefighter?

Above all, one you can find in a hurry. A red handle stands out in a cluttered kit bag or a dark glovebox far better than black or grey. Then come the working parts: a seatbelt cutter that slices webbing without exposing the main edge, a glass-breaker point at the butt, and assisted opening so the 9 cm blade deploys with one hand.

How much is this Pakistan knife, and is there a wholesale price?

The price per knife is displayed at the top of this page, in rupees (PKR) for anyone browsing from Pakistan. Safety-equipment shops and fleet buyers ordering in quantity get a lower unit rate; tell us the number you need on WhatsApp or by email.

Can a company logo go on the handle?

Private label and engraving are available on request for wholesale orders. A red rescue knife carrying a fleet, driving-school or brigade name makes a practical promotional gift; send the artwork and the quantity and we will confirm what this model allows.

Care & maintenance

Looking after red aluminium and a coated blade

With an aluminium handle and a stainless blade, this stainless Pakistan knife asks for little; care is mostly about grit, damp and the moving parts.

  • Rinse off road salt, soot or mud under warm water, then dry the knife with the blade open so no water stays inside the handle.
  • Clean the red finish with mild soap and a soft cloth; solvents and scouring pads dull coloured aluminium, and so do long summers on a sunny dashboard.
  • Put a drop of light oil at the pivot every few months to keep the assisted opening quick.
  • Brush out the belt-cutter hook and the glass breaker with an old toothbrush, as lint and grit collect there.
  • Check the edge after any rescue use: webbing dulls a blade faster than most people expect.
