Fixed blades and leather: a few rules
Sheaths for fixed blades go into the field, and they come back wet. Caring for this 18 cm split leather sheath is mostly about moisture:
- Never sheathe a wet or dirty blade; wipe and dry it first.
- After rain, take the knife out and let sheath and knife dry separately at room temperature.
- Do not store the knife in the sheath for months; leather holds damp and can mark even stainless steel.
- Treat the leather with a little wax or balm before the hunting or camping season.
It is the advice we give as Pakistan knife makers with every fixed-blade sheath.
