Care & maintenance

Looking after split leather in daily carry

Split leather is tough, but without the tight surface of grain leather it soaks up water, grime and pocket lint more readily. A few habits keep this 9 cm sheath in shape:

  • Brush out dust and lint with a dry toothbrush, especially along the bottom seam.
  • If it gets wet, let it dry slowly at room temperature, never on a radiator, which stiffens and cracks leather.
  • Rub in a thin coat of leather balm two or three times a year, then buff off the excess.
  • Open the snap by lifting the flap close to the stud rather than tugging its edge.

Looked after like this, a sheath outlasts several knives, which is why buyers of wholesale knives from Pakistan often order spares in the same shipment.

Made in Sialkot

How one hide becomes two kinds of leather

A cattle hide is too thick for most leather goods, so tanneries feed it through a splitting machine whose band knife slices it into layers. The upper layer, carrying the natural grain, becomes grain leather; the layer beneath is the split. Splits are firm, economical and take dye well, which is why they turn up in workaday goods such as tool pouches, work gloves and knife sheaths.

This sheath is cut from split leather and closed with a snap, a construction the leather trade around Sialkot knows well. It suits compact Pakistan-made knives, and keeps the cost of a spare sheath in proportion to the knife it protects.

Questions & answers

Questions buyers ask about the 9 cm size

How do I know a knife will fit?

Close the knife and measure it end to end. A folder or small fixed blade that comes in a little under 9 cm will sit in the pouch with the flap snapping shut easily. One that reaches the full 9 cm will make the snap strain, so it needs the next size up.

Is the 9 cm size worth stocking next to the smaller one?

Yes, if you sell compact folders of several lengths. Many small knives fall between sizes, and a sheath even a centimetre too short will not close. Having both on the hook lets you fit almost every small knife on the counter.

Can sheaths and knives go on the same order?

Of course. Sheaths are usually added to a knife order rather than bought alone. Send us the full list of models and quantities on WhatsApp or by email, and we will quote everything together.

Best uses

Pockets, tackle boxes and toolkits

Small knives get lost in bags and scratch whatever sits beside them. A snug pouch with a snap closure solves both problems for very little money, which makes it an easy add-on to compact Pakistan knives of every kind. It works for:

  • Compact folders bought as gifts
  • Small fixed blades for crafts
  • Handbag and backpack pockets
  • Fishing tackle boxes
  • Toolkits and car door pockets
  • A spare for a favourite knife
