Care & maintenance

Keeping a ridged handle grippy for years

Ridges give a sure hold but also collect grit, so most of the upkeep on this EDC knife happens on the handle:

  • Brush the ridges and the edges of the gorilla medallion with a soft brush and soapy water whenever they look dull, then dry thoroughly.
  • Keep solvents and petrol-based cleaners away from the rubber inlay, which they can soften.
  • Dry the 11 cm stainless blade after cutting food or damp cord, and wipe on a thin film of light oil before long storage.
  • Add a drop of oil at the pivot every few weeks of daily carry so the assisted opening stays quick and even.
Questions & answers

Gorilla folder questions from retailers

What does the gorilla folder cost in Pakistan?

Look at the top of this page for the unit price, shown in PKR to visitors in Pakistan. For a shop order, the more gorilla knives, or mixed animals, you take, the lower each one costs; we quote wholesale rates by WhatsApp or email.

Can the gorilla be swapped for our own logo?

On request, yes: we arrange private label for wholesale quantities. Send us your artwork and the quantity you have in mind, and we will confirm what is possible before the order is made up.

Is the ridged handle comfortable for long jobs?

The ridges give your fingers something to press against, which reduces the squeeze needed to hold the knife steady. Combined with the 12 cm length, that makes a long session of cutting cord or cardboard less tiring than with a smooth, narrow handle.

The story

From an ancient sailor's tale to a knife medallion

The word gorilla is far older than the science. Around 500 BC the Carthaginian navigator Hanno sailed down the west coast of Africa and later described meeting wild, hairy people whom his interpreters called gorillai. More than two thousand years later, in 1847, the missionary Thomas Savage and the anatomist Jeffries Wyman gave the first scientific description of the great ape and borrowed Hanno's word for it.

Today the gorilla stands for calm, quiet strength, which explains its place on the ridged handle of this folder, the animal that rounds out the medallion series. Themed inlays like this one are now common on Pakistan pocket knives, a modern touch from a city whose cutlers have been making folding knives for generations.
